History


The history of Cell Biology at Yale is intimately linked to the history of the field.

The Department was founded as the Section of Cell Biology in 1972 under the leadership of George E. Palade, who recruited several founding faculty members including Marilyn G. Farquhar and James E. Jamieson. Palade received the Nobel Prize while at Yale in 1974.
